Saratoga County had another very successful year in 2025. We have continued to attack challenging matters with thoughtful, informed strategies always seeking long term solutions that provide visibility on saving taxpayer money. Building a foundation of entities that serve many communities through shared services agreements have positioned Saratoga County to excel for decades into the future.
Some of the most recent accomplishments as we finished 2024 into 2025 include:
- Saratoga County boasts the lowest property taxes in the state
- Saratoga County has the lowest sales tax rate in the state saving residents a significant amount of money during the year
- Completed the build out of the Environmental Health Unit of the County DOH. A multi-year effort increasing vital services that effect our every day lives
- County Airport redevelopment project working with Federal and state funding partners
- Continue planning to construct a permanent County Code Blue homeless shelter to fulfill state mandates in a cost-effective manner for the long term
- Approved an aggressive plan to provide a long-term solution to the disposal of Biosolids. Biosolids are a major biproduct of the treatment process for sanitary sewer operations. Due to exploding disposal transportation costs, the dwindling supply of available landfill space and expected changes to state regulations, a large investment in this process will protect the interests of taxpayers for the next 50 years
- New trails and recreational resources. Zim Smith Trail expansion will also continue.
- In response to the state’s new regulations for short term rentals, the County and local municipalities have been planning to properly prepare for the new laws
- The 250th Anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga planning efforts and events through the year have been very successful attracting more people to learn about the history of our County and country.
- New addiction services and support for families, individuals and new programs directly targeted to high school students in the County
- Purchased a new Hazmat Truck
- Investing in a new fire training facility
- 911 Communication upgrades
- Mental health Task Force was appointed
- Animal Crimes Task Force was appointed
- An Animal Abuse Registry was established. In Clifton Park we instituted first of its kind regulations to curb abuse of animals
These are just some of the accomplishments and projects that are in various stages of planning after funds were approved. I want to thank my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, County staff and the many volunteers who work hard each day to get the job done.
Shared services entities such as the County Sewer District, County Animal Shelter, Saratoga County Water Authority, Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Services assets and other similar services are shared and supported by individual municipalities. This structure has provided individual municipalities with the option of establishing a vital service or simply utilizing and supporting a County wide entity. Each entity is different in its own way, but each saves local municipalities and taxpayers a significant amount of money each year, helping municipalities keep their taxes as low as possible.
As 2026 begins, we have a great deal to be thankful for, and we look forward to another successful year for the Board of Supervisors.
