Who wants to help MiSci?

Many of you reading this may have visited MiSci-The Museum of Innovation and Science as a student or an adult who brought your kids to the museum. In either case the tag line for MiSci of providing an immersive experience for visitors of all ages is truly a goal the staff at the museum successfully exceeds. When you visit MiSci you will experience a large number of interactive stations mixing fun with learning. Kids are drawn into the exhibits by the professional presentation and interesting appeal. When they finish their time at each exhibit they have learned about a variety of important topics that will undoubtedly spur inspiration in future activities or perhaps even careers.

Unfortunately, MiSci has now fallen into a difficult position financially and physically. The condition of the current facility is creating concerns for the future of the museum and the incredibly large amount of historical archives stored in the building. The organization is in need of financial assistance to continue operations, while developing a plan to sustain the museum for the future.

In short, the museum needs help. Local support is vital and time sensitive if the museum will have a future.

On a recent visit I reacquainted myself with the museum and the kids enjoyed the current exhibits. I am planning to assist the museum in any way possible. I am hopeful there are no parochial concerns by some people not affiliated with MiSci, with people willing to help the museum. The sole focus should be a sustainable future for MiSci. I am confident the current leadership team and staff will be able to lead MiSci successfully into the future with the proper partnerships and assistance.

Several years ago another local museum was in trouble. CMOST-Children’s Museum of Science and Technology, was in a perilous position and facing an uncertain future. I met with people involved with the museum to discuss a possible move to Clifton Park. After the chorus of local media made it clear the museum should be in a city and not a suburb like Clifton Park, the board of the museum was told in no uncertain terms by specific business “leaders” and politicos that if the museum moved to Clifton Park the organization would no longer receive any funding. The message was clear- if CMOST moved to Clifton Park there would be ramifications. The message was effective and the prospect of CMOST moving to CP was ended. CMOST closed in 2020, unable to secure a new location or further sustain themselves.

I am hopeful we can experience a different outcome with MiSci. But, your help is needed. If you would like to lend your assistance to the goal of forging a successful future for MiSci, please send an email, beginning tomorrow, to helpmisci@cliftonpark.org. Together we can preserve the priceless archives and memories of children visiting the museum in the future.
