A $30 million, much needed redevelopment of the Saratoga County Airport, has begun. The removal of an old hangar is the first step of the construction process following an extensive planning effort that included coordination with New York State on the final plans and grant funding. The state is overseeing the application of the funding to projects around the state slated to receive money through the program. The County will be responsible for $3 million of the cost of the project. The remainder of the cost will be grant funded.
A new state-of-the-art, energy efficient terminal building will be constructed at the site. The first floor will offer two passenger waiting areas and a multi-media conference room along with other important amenities. The building will also provide new hangar space for the airport.
As a member of the committee overseeing this project, I am pleased with our progress. One important element of the project is the relatively short time frame required to complete demolition and construction of the new building. Following the completion of the paperwork with NYS we have two years to have this beautiful addition to our airport completed. Further updates will be forthcoming as we make progress.
