Intersection Improvement Updates

We held a public information meeting on the Sitterly Road Corridor Improvement Plan in late January. The joint project with the Town of Halfmoon straddles the boundaries of both Towns. The ability to secure grant funding for the improvements, ensures there is no cost to the two municipalities.

The improvements will entail the following:

1. Two new interconnected traffic signals at the intersections of Sitterly Road with Crossing Boulevard and Sitterly Road with Woodin Road.

2. Development of a right turn lane for West bound Sitterly Road traffic onto Crossing Boulevard.

3. Development of a left turn lane for West bound Sitterly Road traffic onto South bound Woodin Road.

4. Development of a right turn lane for East bound Sitterly Road traffic onto South bound Woodin Road.

5. Development of a limited right turn lane for North bound Woodin Road traffic onto East bound Sitterly Road.

6. Pedestrian Improvements

In other action, we have been lobbying NYS DOT for a number of years regarding the need for improvements to the RT 146/146A/Vischer Ferry RD intersection. After being informed DOT was committed to the project, they have performed detailed assessments of the current conditions at the intersection and are now developing design plans. When DOT has completed their initial design process, we will hold a public informational meeting to discuss their findings. There are basically two options available- improve the current design or a complete redesign that will include a roundabout. Although there has been a number of roundabouts constructed in municipalities around the region in recent years, Clifton Park has yet to host one. A new roundabout was constructed as part of the new Rexford Bridge Project on the Niskayuna side. The new bridge and associated traffic improvements has led to an immediate and impactful improvement in the traffic flow. I have told DOT we want the same result for the RT146/146A intersection. It is important the final design proves to be a long term solution to the current conditions experienced during the busy commuting times of the day. The final result must also take into account how changes in traffic patterns will affect traffic further down each road connected to the intersection.

We will continue to update everyone as the two projects progress, including construction timelines when available.
