Tom Beating Time, But Not The Eagles

Tom Brady had a Super Bowl for the ages, after being named league MVP Saturday evening. Over 500 yards passing, 3 TDs and no interceptions. He and the offense carried a porous defense, loss of his deep threat to injury early in the game, the highly questionable benching of one of the defense’s best players and oblivious special teams to the brink of a 6th ring. But, in the end it wasn’t meant to be.

The ratings for the game were the lowest since 2009, after setting records for the game in 2015. Approximately 8 million less people watched the game compared to last year, continuing the trend of ratings decline. None of the players kneeled during the National Anthem.

However, a few players from the winning team were quick to say they would not be accepting an expected invitation from the White House to celebrate their championship. They spent a few hours without being outwardly political or disrespectful to the Flag, so I guess they wanted to make up for this lost time and get back to politics. Members of the US Olympic team have already made it clear they will not be visiting the White House if invited, before they even arrived in South Korea. One athlete, skater Ashley Wagner, who stated she wouldn’t visit 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, didn’t make the team so I guess she won’t need to worry about an invite. She did take the time to rip the judges for not making the team. I wonder if there are rules against questioning the refs like in other sports.

So, will the Eagles be invited to the address that bears the name of their home state? Hopefully. The tradition should continue and those members of the Eagles that choose to attend the ceremony, will remember the experience for the rest of their lives.
